People love dressing up their pets in pet costumes year round. Most people think costumes are just for Halloween-well they aren’t. Why shouldn’t everyone, even pets, take part in such a festive form of expression? There are pet costumes available resembling many everyday items, which people really get a kick out of. While Halloween is still the biggest day in America for costumes, people dress their pets in costumes year round. Christmas costumes are also very popular for people to dress up their pets.

I’ve seen dogs dressed in cocktail dresses for special occasions and then changed into pajamas when the party is over. People buy pet costumes because they know their guests will get a kick out of them. Some popular pet costumes include: a punk, a hotdog, a pirate, a bumble bee, a devil, a lobster, a ballerina, an inmate, a cave man, a skunk, Wonder Woman, Batman, a frog prince and many more.

Some dogs love to be dressed up in pet costumes, while others cannot wait to get them off. Some dogs look so adorable in their pet costumes that people have them photographed professionally to include in their Christmas cards that go out later in the year. Dressing up cats is also possible, but most people stick with dogs.

There are some bars that throw Halloween parties for dogs. The dogs can mingle and sniff out other dogs, drink water, eat treats and scratch themselves, all while dressed in costumes. There are also certain fests designated to the breed of a dog where costumes are also recommended. I’ve attended Pug Fest with my mother and my aunts. Many pugs gather with their owners in a large bar and play with each other. There are pugs that come in from all over the state and many have very interesting costumes on.

We had a Jack Russell Terrier that we dressed up as Dennis Rodman one year for Halloween. Won first place at the local mall. Great times.

My terrier Taj loves to put on his sweater when it’s cold in the winter. He runs to me when I hold it in the air. I highly recommend clothes for dogs.

Thanks for the article. I can see how cats could be hard to get into costumes–most cats I know wouldn’t stand for dressing up. Dogs tend to be more patient generally. I suppose you can’t put a fish in a costume, but maybe a scarf or something for a bird?

Hmm…reptiles wouldn’t object, but then most people that are into reptiles wouldn’t want to do anything like that. Hamsters and gerbils, maybe. But in the end, dogs are probably the best choice.

when i think of pet costumes, i think of outfits and clothes for dog and cats. looking at your banner made me think of dressing my kids up as pets. that’d be hilarious! lol

Man the costume niche must be huge, I see lot’s of costume sites around the net. Now costumes for pets, sounds good, our dog (Chrissy) passed away and we’re not sure we want to get another, it’s like losing a family member. Maybe someday. Pet costumes would be great for many occasions. Best wishes.

Well I have seen some interesting costumes in my time but these beat all! The batman costume actually prompted my wife to say “that would look really cute on…” that is as far as she got before i quipped “you can forget that”. No way am I walking a dog all dressed up, looks cute on others peoples pooches but my guy stays the way he is! I enjoyed all the comments!
